Reading #7: The AR AD Takeover

The purpose of the AR/AD Takeover is to reclaim the space taken up by advertisers. By superimposing the artists own art/ message, the viewer has the option of blocking out commercial advertisements to view something that is more pleasant or politically stimulating. By doing this, viewers are given an escape from our consumer reality that seems to control everything we do and what we believe defines us. I love this idea of being able to block commercial advertising (even though I enjoy certain advertisements), and promotes self awareness by refusing to be controlled by what we buy and the messages we see.
